486 Claims On Scratch-And-Win Scam Filed At Consumer Claims Tribunal
A total of 486 claims on scratch-and-win contests have been filed at the Consumer Claims Tribunal as at Aug 31 this year, Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said.
Last year, 598 claims on the contest were filed, while in previous year, only 456 of such claims were filed, he said in a written reply to Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here Monday.
Hasan said the ministry was consistent in carrying out monitoring activity and inspections to combat the scratch-and-win scam.
“The amended Trade Descriptions Act 2011 has also enabled the ministry to take effective action against organisers of the scratch-and-win contests which aimed at confusing the public into believing that they would win certain prizes with unreasonable payment, cost or terms and conditions,” he said.
As such, he said the government also welcomed public cooperation in lodging reports and complaints about the activity to enable immediate action to be taken.
